Description
Nestled among the mountains of western Bhutan, Paro is often the first glimpse travelers have of the kingdom. The valley is surrounded by forested mountains, traditional farmhouses, ancient temples, and historic dzongs, creating a landscape where Bhutan's natural beauty and cultural heritage exist side by side.
High above the valley stands Paro Taktsang, or Tiger's Nest, Bhutan's most iconic monastery. According to Bhutanese tradition, Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated in a cave that remains sacred today. The hike through pine forests and mountain trails is as much a spiritual journey as it is an adventure.
Back in the valley, explore Rinpung Dzong, visit the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang, discover Bhutanese art and history at the National Museum, or wander through Paro town to experience local food, handicrafts, and everyday life.
