Why is Bhutan the happiest Country?

Why is Bhutan the happiest Country?
Bhutan – One of the Happiest countries in the world.

Bhutan, the “Land of the Thunder Dragon,” is a landlocked country that serves as a haven of peace for all inhabitants. It is located between two giants, China and India. Bhutan is a  democratic constitutional monarchy that follows Buddhism as the state religion. Bhutan has one of the most established ecosystems in the world with less ecological damage.

Unlike many other countries in the world, Bhutan has exclusively focused on the happiness of the people and well-being. The sustainable development goals (SDGs) led the nation to preserve its beautiful landscape, unique culture, and tradition.

1. What is Gross National Happiness?

Now, What really isGross National Happiness?  Well, it is a holistic philosophy formulated by His Majesty the 4th king Jigme Singye Wangchuck in the year 1970. The concept argues that sustainable development should adopt a holistic approach, essentially focusing on the happiness of the people rather than the practice of stockpiling materials. The principles of Gross National Happiness allow each person to articulate a thoughtful behavior and thereby they act meaningfully among people and the country. It is because of this special concept Bhutan has been able to gain the maximum benefit.

2. Bhutan’s Response to a Globalised World

Sustainable Development

Most developing nations’ cultures, origins, lifestyles, languages, and natural resources are deteriorating due to globalization, Bhutan on the other hand is already prepared for the possible threat of globalization. Any developmental activities pertaining to any policies and rules were carried out primarily focused on the well-being of the people and the country as a whole; however, It doesn’t necessarily mean that the country has abandoned itself from the advantages of globalization and modernization.

3. Manage Spiritual and Material Happiness Equally

Manage Spiritual and Material Happiness Equally
One of the most Peaceful and Tranquil Heaven on Earth.

One of the simplest values that most people in Bhutan respect and have is the power of spiritual growth. Though the world has found many answers concerning utmost outer problems less had they failed to recognize how the happiness of oneself could impact the world we live in.

TheKingdom of Bhutan is a world with many sacred and holy sites. The country has a peaceful and tranquil environment and landscape making it a haven for spiritual retreat and meditation. Over the centuries, many Great Buddhist scholars and practitioners have visited Bhutan for meditation and subsequently imparted many of their discoveries and knowledge which today people still practice and respect.

Material progress, in comparison to spiritual and mental growth, is not valued as highly as spiritual and mental growth however, the country has carefully taken care of the environment while also making considerable growth in Gross Domestic Product. Bhutan

Retreat centers and hermitages are located near temples and monasteries high in the mountains. Buddhist practitioners and monks meditate in the isolated hills and mountains for days, months, and years. Meditation is an integral part of Buddhism to reflect the purpose of life.
